Essential rural skills for essential self reliance

About the workshop
As part of our rural skills series we are delighted to offer this unique Welding for Women (and men) workshop.

Welding is an essential skill for people living in rural locations who want to be self-reliant and save themselves potential costs.  This workshop aims to provide you with the essential skills you need to perform basic welding techniques.

Workshop Outcomes
By the end of the day you will walk away with a repertoire of skills to enable you to perform general maintenance, repair and restore metal around your property, on the farm or just  simply to allow you to get creative with metal.

Workshop Content
The course will comprise practical and theroy to cover the following;

  • Safe welding and metal work practices including PPE  safety equipment
  • Overview and demonstration of best practice of equipment
  • Measuring and marking out
  • Centre punching and drilling holes
  • Cutting, shaping,grinding and bending
  • Use of various hand and power  tools relevant to metal work
  • Types of welds and when to use them
  • Maintenance of equipment
  • Basic Metallurgy
  • Rust prevention and restoration techniques

About the Trainers
Peter Salvisberg
Peter has metal work in his genes, he comes from a family of blacksmiths and metal workers, his grandfather built a model of the Eiffel Tower to scale just from a postcard picture of the original, and Peter himself has been welding and metal working since he was a boy and worked professionally for over 40 years, over the years he has trained countless apprentices. Through his business he has been involved in many large and small projects, including Sydney Opera House restoration work, Luna Park and had contracts with retail chains such as Gloria’s Coffees, Victoria Coffee and Aldi stores.

He is a dedicated trainer who loves to share his passion for the world of metal.  He has all the required attributed to help you gain the skills you desire.
